Transitioning to a low-carb and plant-based lifestyle can be a challenge. You have to abandon the majority of snacks you used to know and love in favor of hacks or alternatives.

Gone are the days when you can haphazardly chuck boxes of processed pseudo-foods into your shopping cart, ushering in anything that suits your fancy.

But, that’s not totally a bad thing. For starters, you’re going to start putting a lot more quality foods into your diet.

And you’re going to discover a lot of interesting (and tasty!) foods and snacks you may not have otherwise tried. Like these turmeric balls.

Ingredients in These Snack Balls

Let’s talk about the “why” behind this seemingly odd combination of ingredients. I promise there is a method to the madness.

I should start off by assuring you these taste good. After all, if you don’t eat them, you waste your time and money. And that’s not cool.

So yes, they are tasty. So tasty, in fact, that you’ll have to limit yourself to one snack bite per serving.

Turmeric isn’t exactly a popular ingredient in sweets and snacks. But the potential benefits to health and weight loss are too good to ignore. The benefits of turmeric include:

  • The curcumin in turmeric may speed up weight loss
  • Studies have shown benefits for people with type 2 diabetes
  • Turmeric has long been used to fight inflammation
  • It has been helpful to many suffering from osteoarthritis
  • The spice aids in liver health
  • Possible benefits for preventing or fighting cancer

Basically, it’s a super spice that we would all do well to consume more of.

Moving on, this recipe also contains unsweetened shredded coconut. This is going to help give these snack balls a better texture.

The coconut butter, in addition to being delicious, helps hold everything together. Nothing is worse than your delicious snack falling apart all over your clothes. Especially if that snack ball is bright yellow.

Finally, turmeric can taste a bit bitter. To counter that, I suggest using stevia or erythritol.

        Turmeric Balls

        Description: These turmeric balls are the snack that loves you back. Get a much-needed jolt of energy and enjoy the anti-inflammatory benefits of turmeric powder!


        • 1 cup (80 g) of unsweetened shredded coconut
        • 1/2 cup (120 ml) of coconut butter
        • 1 Tablespoon (6 g) of turmeric powder
        • Stevia or erythritol, to taste


        1. Melt the coconut butter slightly.
        2. Mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl. Adjust the ingredients so that it fits your tastes and the mixture isn’t too crumbly. Add in some coconut oil if needed.
        3. Pack into ice cube trays or other molds and set in the freezer for 2 hours.
